About us

The Caltech International Spouses Club (or CISC) is a motley crew of individuals hailing from all across the world and are in different stages of life. Though we come from different cultures, speak different languages and are in widely differing life stages, we are united by our experience of making Pasadena our new home.

CISC is a dynamic community with plenty of activities that you can attend all week long. We have English language classes (our most regular activity so far), recreational and bar meet-ups, group cooking, group hikes, the occasional holiday parties and lots more! Of course, you may not always be able to make it. However, we have these activities fairly regularly, so there’s a strong chance that you will be able to appreciate all those activities according to your own schedule 🙂 Through this blog, we hope to share our interests, adventures, recipes, and life hacks to help each other overcome the challenges of living in a foreign country and forge friendships for life. Welcome to Pasadena!

Amrita Vyas

Hello everyone! My name is Amrita and I’m originally from India – born in the royal city of Jodhpur, Rajasthan and spent most of my life in Mumbai (Bombay), Maharashtra. I was a lawyer in India but have enrolled myself in a self-imposed rest and recreation programme since moving to the US.

I moved to Pasadena in January 2022 with my husband for his postdoc at Caltech. I enjoy cooking and sometimes eating what I cook. I’m a generally curious person who is taking over the CISC blog – any topic is a good topic to learn something new! Please feel free to reach out to me in person, on Facebook or e-mail for any blog related questions or even if it’s just for a chat. Cheers and welcome to the Club! If you have ideas and /or would like to become a part of the blog team, please contact us at blogcisc@gmail.com.
